Since late 2004, I have become increasingly involved with the Hospitality and Tourism Program
     at San Diego State University.

This program – under the effective direction of Carl Winston and a great faculty studded with
experienced hospitality executives and a very with-it tenure track professors – graduates an
approximate 100 students every year who are trained to be leaders…not just managers.

I think that’s just what American industry needs.

After getting my feet wet in the classroom as Brinker Executive in Residence in late 2004, I have
progressively increased my teaching load and now deliver an average of three classes per semester
with a special concentration on Leadership Development. I have also been deeply involved in
crafting an extensive set of new courses for the already compelling HTM curriculum.

I actually see my teaching, consulting and mentoring activities as part of one larger whole:
helping people hone their leadership skills and practices for deployment in the increasingly
competitive and complicated world of the 21st Century.
